The Artist's Brain and Belief

/i/brave_bw_sm.jpg

What do you believe about yourself as an artist?

As a creator, this may be the single most important question you can ask yourself.  Because whatever you believe, is what will be. There’s no way around it.

So go ahead, ask yourself the question: What do I believe about myself as an artist?

Be prepared to dig deep, and you’ll be amazed at the insights you’ll gain through this simple exercise.  Write it all down…the good and the not so good.  Go for a list of at least 25 items.

Then, take a look at your list and highlight the good beliefs, the one’s that fill your heart and body with joy.  These are your truth.  Know that.  These words of encouragement are your power, your essence, and your  fire.  You are a creative force of life, remember this, always.

Now, take a look at any negative beliefs that are taking up space on your list (and in your brain).  One by one, re-write those beliefs, turning each negative into a positive.  This act can be completely transformative.  In creating a full list of positive beliefs about yourself as an artist, you will be embracing your true brilliance as a creator.

Here’s my favorite part of this exercise….

Choose 5 beliefs from your positive list, and 5 from your rewrite list (you know, those beliefs that started as negative but you transformed to positive).  Take time in the days ahead to turn these statements into works of art for yourself. Display each one  in a place where you’ll see it each and every day.

BELIEF in yourself and your abilities as an artist is the emotional currency that feeds your spirit.  A strong belief in your abilities, allows you to emotionally invest in the making of your work, to step into the creative flow and follow your creative hits to wherever they may lead.  When working from this mindset, there is no space for your inner critic to enter the room.  With every breath, you move freely through the creative process, exploring ideas, connecting the dots, following your intuition.  Belief prepares you to  make creative decisions without thinking (or censoring yourself).  You become your truth.  You become the art and the artist.  And that’s who you really are.  So why waste another moment?  Now is your time to share your creative brilliance with the world.  Show us your ART.  Believe in YOU.  I do.
