Wearable works of art created to celebrate the present moment
“Knitting is a slow and generous craft. I create hand knit collectable garments, made one mindful stitch at a time. Each is designed to wrap you in comfort and colors that that reflect your artistic style. Wearing a bespoke hand knit, you can feel the whispers of inspiration that sparked its making, and you become a part of that story.” ~Jeannie Thomma
My Creative Practice
I’m Jeannie, a professional artist and teacher from the mountains of Western North Carolina. For 25 years, I’ve been making fiber art—favoring the soft and slow forms of knitting, embroidery, felting, and weaving. Early on in my art making journey, I also discovered the practice of meditation. This beautiful way-finding practice has become a foundational aspect of my creative process. Meditation centers me and gives my creativity wings.
“Know, first, who you are, and then adorn yourself accordingly.” ~Epictetus
Wearable Works of Art
When you wrap yourself in a one of a kind hand knit shawl, poncho or cowl from my collection, you’ll be cocooning yourself in a wearable work of art that was created with hand and heart working in synchrony. That wonderful balanced energy becomes a signature element of the work.
If you are drawn to color combinations that are found in nature—then my palettes will speak you. By focusing on the elements (fire, air, earth, and water) and the beautiful combinations that result when they are brought together, you'll be inspired by the amazing color surprises that emerge in my hand knit garments.
If luxurious textures are important to you, then the natural fibers, most notably wool, alpaca, mohair, silk, bamboo, cotton and linen, that I use to create one of a kind hand knit works of art, will call to you. When paired together, these choice fibers yield finished works that look and feel like a garden created to celebrate all that is wonderfully wabi-sabi in nature.
When you select a handmade work of my wearable art to add to your own collection, I want you to feel vibrantly alive in it. In addition to the color, the texture, pattern, and design of the piece, the energetic signature of the work is meant to elevate your sense of well-being, both inside and out. Natural fibers carry a spirit, a life force that is essential to the energy of the piece. My wish for you is that when you’re wearing one of my pieces, you’ll feel the energy of the piece enlivening you, clearing a path for your to BE your best creative self in the world.
